Vantaanjoella eilen aamulla kuvasin telkän (Bucephala clangula/Common Goldeneye).

Roskia. A rubbish.

Kiva huomata, että telkkien määrä lisääntyy kyseisellä joella.

Olen huomannut joenvarren lähimetsiköissä, tässä havaintopaikan lähettyvillä, kolme pönttöä, joissa telkät voisivat pesiä. Toivottavasti pönttöjä on telkille tarpeeksi monta.

I took these photos of the Common Goldeneye yesterday morning. It is pleasure to notice that the number of Goldeneye are growing in the River of Vantaa. There are nest boxes in the little forests near by the river. I hope that there are enough nest boxes to the Goldeneyes…

Kevätmuuttoa

Eilen Viikissä näin tälle vuodelle ensimmäisen västäräkin.

Pelloilla oli upeaa kävellä, sillä kiurut lauloivat ja lentelivät. Töyhtöhyypäthän siellä on jo ollut pidempään.

Kottaraisia ja uuttukyyhkyjä myös näin.

Kanadanhanhien ja metsähanhien joukossa on ollut yksi lyhytnokkahanhi ja tundrahanhia. Myös valkkareita ja laulujoutsen olivat paikalla.

Lintuilijoita oli katsomassa erityisesti lyhytnokkahanhea.

Tämä on niin kiireistä aikaa nyt ja aikataulutukset menevät poskelleen, kun on pakko päästä ulos katsomaan lintuja…

Yesterday I saw my first White wagtail in this year. There are now so many Eurasian Skylarks in Viikki. They fly and sing above the fields. There are also Northern Lapwings, Common Stralings (I like Starlings!) and Stock Doves and Whooper Swans.  

Among the Canada Gooses are one Pink-footed Goose, some Taiga Bean Gooses and Greater White-fronted Gooses. There are also Barnacle Gooses. Birdwatchers are interesting especially in the Pink-footed Goose.

This is so busy time, because every morning there is some new birds…

Kevään ensipeipot

Pääsiäisenä Lahdessa oli ilo havaita muuttolintujen saapuvan. Helsingissähän niitä jo on enemmänkin. Suurin ilo oli kaksi pyrstötiaista ruokinnallamme, sillä niitä en ole siellä aiemmin nähnyt. Toinen ilon aihe oli pähkinänakkelin kuuluva ääni maanantaina aamupäivänä aivan ruokinnan lähistöllä, ja niitäkään en ole siellä aiemmin nähnyt, enkä kuullut. Maanantaiaamuna myös laulujoutsenia oli liikkeellä useaan otteeseen yli lennollaan.

Maanantaiaamuna Pirkko oli Malla-koiran kanssa läheisessä metsässä lenkillä. Sieltä Pirkko soitti minulle ja kertoi kuulevansa peipon laulua. Hän hämmentyneenä kysyi voiko se todella olla peippo näin maaliskuun puolella. Ajattelin sen olevan peippo, sillä muuttajia oli viikonlopun aikana saapunut Suomeen. Sanoin Pirkolle, että se peippo tulee pian ruokinnalle muiden lintujen mukana.

Niinhän siinä kävi. Muutaman tunnin kuluttua alkoi kuulua peipon laulua. Ja ruokinnalle saapui kaksi peippoa kolmannen laulaessa vähän etäämmällä. Se on niin hauskaa, että joka kevät sitä on innoissaan peipoista :)

At Eastern I saw two Long-tailed Tit in my feeding place in Lahti (abou 100 km to the north from Helsinki). It was a big joy to me, because there were not Long-tailed Tits hitherto. I also heard the voice of Eurasian Nuthatch. It was pleasure too, because there were not them before. Yesterday morning there flew many Whooper swans.

Yesterday morning Pirkko was in the forest (near our feeding place) with the dog Malla. Pirkko called me from there and told that she hear the sing of Common Chaffinch. I told her that it will soon fly to the feeding place among the other birds. And so it happened! A couple hours later there came 3 Chaffinch to the feeding place! Every spring it is so big joy when the Common Chaffinches comes :)

Hämmästyttävää, että tikli (Carduelis carduelis) esiintyi voimakkaasti renessanssin taiteessa. Tämän tikli-ilmiön taustalla oli taru, jossa kerrottiin tiklin punaisen värin tulleen veripisarasta sen kiskoessa piikkiä Jeesuksen orjantappurakruunusta. Alla kuuluisimpia näistä maalauksista.

It is amazing that the Goldfinch had played the role in Renaissance art. There was the myth that the Goldfinch took a peak from Jesus’s crown of thorns and the red color of the Goldfinch is the drop of blood. Above I mention some of these famous paintings. Sadly that the Goldfinch was also the cage bird.
